Dumpster and Porta Potty Rentals in Rain and Snow

It’s wet out there. When rain and snow roll into Salt Lake, we get the same few questions about dumpsters. Here are the answers, straight from us.

Does rain or snow make my dumpster heavier?

Yes, a little. Water adds weight. For construction and demolition debris, it’s pretty small. It still counts toward your weight allowance: 1 ton on the 15 yard, 2 tons on the 20 yard, and 3 tons on the 30 yard. Not sure which size fits your job? See our dumpster rentals.

Should I cover my dumpster?

You don’t need to. If you’d like to, a tarp is fine. Heads up: the lid on our 30 yard covered dumpster is a steel mesh cover. It keeps people out and keeps debris from blowing away, but it won’t keep rain or snow out.

Can I throw snow or wet material in my dumpster?

Yes. Snow and wet material can go right in. Just remember that water adds a little weight.

Can you still deliver if my driveway is muddy or snowy?

Yes. We deliver in mud, snow or rain. It doesn’t matter.

Will weather delay my delivery or pickup?

Usually not. Weather can delay a delivery when it gets really bad, but most days we’re out running routes like normal.

Do I need to clear an area before delivery?

Not really. Just make sure we can get to the spot where you want it. Some tight neighborhoods make the exact spot harder to reach. Our drivers are very skilled, but a clear way in helps.

Can you move my dumpster or concrete washout out of the mud?

Yes, on your next switch. We take your old dumpster away and set the new one wherever you’d like, at no additional charge. Just let us know where. A separate trip just to move a dumpster does come with a charge, so the switch is the easy time to do it. Same goes for concrete washouts.

Where should a long-term dumpster or porta potty go?

Somewhere water doesn’t pool. If it’s staying a while, pick a spot that stays dry when it rains. That goes for porta potty rentals too.

What about porta potties in the snow?

Same deal. We deliver and service porta potties in mud, snow or rain. For a long-term unit, pick a spot where water doesn’t pool, and make sure our truck can still get to it after a storm. Planning ahead for winter? See our winter porta potties for job sites and events.
