Where Broken Concrete Goes

You need concrete crushed. Here is how that works with Bubs

You fill the container. We haul it to the crushing facility. The facility crushes it. Crushing is their licensed work, not ours, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

What we do is get the concrete off your job and to the right place. That means a concrete washout for a pour, or a dumpster for a slab, sidewalk or patio tear-out.

Rebar is fine. It gets separated from the concrete on the way, then the rebar goes to scrap metal recycling and the concrete goes to the crusher.

How It Gets There

Three ways to get your concrete to the crusher

Pick by where the concrete comes from. Pours get a washout. Tear-outs get a dumpster. Every option ends at the same crushing facility.

FOR POURS
Pans1.5 or 2.5 yd
1.5 yd panAbout 10 to 15 rinses
2.5 yd panAbout 20 to 30 rinses
Footprint7 x 7 ft
Best for

Driveways, footings, flatwork and smaller pours. See washout pans.

FOR BIG POURS
Roll-Offs7 or 11 yd
7 yd (8 x 16 ft)About 40 to 55 rinses
11 yd (8 x 20 ft)About 60 to 80 rinses
Heavy rebar$85 surcharge
Best for

Pump trucks, commercial pours and multi-day jobs. See washout roll-offs.

FOR TEAR-OUTS
15 or 20yd dumpster
Weight included1 ton or 2 tons
Over allowance$49 / ton
At bookingSay it is concrete
Best for

Driveway demos, patio rip-outs, sidewalks and retaining walls. See dumpster sizes.

Concrete is heavy. A tear-out load hits the weight allowance long before the bin looks full. Tell us it is mostly concrete when you book, and we will spec the right bin and warn the driver about the weight.
Tell us what you are pouring or tearing out and we will tell you which container fits.
Who Sends Us Concrete

Where the concrete comes from

Most of what we haul to the crusher comes from one of these three jobs.

JOB 01

Concrete Contractors and Pours

Crews rinse chutes and pump hoses into the washout. The slurry hardens in the pan, and the cured concrete is exactly what goes to the crusher.

Containing it on site is part of your SWPPP, and the washout keeps the rinse water off the ground.

JOB 02

Pump Trucks and Commercial Jobs

Big pours fill a pan fast. A 7 or 11 yard roll-off takes about 40 to 80 rinses, so it stays on the job longer between swaps.

Concrete and normal rebar are both fine. Heavy rebar loads carry an $85 surcharge. That is the only one.

JOB 03

Slab Tear-Outs and Demo

Old driveways, patios, sidewalks, foundations and retaining walls. Homeowners and demo crews both do this one.

Order a 15 or 20 yard dumpster and tell us it is mostly concrete. Concrete-heavy loads go straight to the crusher. Small amounts mixed into a cleanout are fine too.

After the Crusher

What does crushed concrete become?

Road base, sub-base and clean aggregate for new construction. The crushing facility breaks it down and cleans it, and it goes back into Utah roads and building pads.

That means less quarried rock dug up for the next job, and a heavy, bulky material kept out of the landfill.

Need road base on your own job? Bubs delivers it by the cubic yard. See material deliveries.

Concrete is one of four recycling streams.

Metal goes to scrap recyclers, green waste to compost and cardboard to paper recycling. See how Bubs routes every load or the concrete recycling page for more on the facility.

Common Questions

Concrete crushing questions

Do you crush concrete yourselves?
No. We haul it to a Utah crushing facility, and they crush it. One example is Concrete Recycling Inc in Salt Lake City. Our job is getting the concrete off your site and to the right place.
Where does my concrete go after pickup?
To a Utah crushing facility, such as Concrete Recycling Inc in Salt Lake City. It is crushed into road base, sub-base and aggregate. It does not go to the landfill. More on our concrete recycling page.
Can rebar go in with the concrete?
Yes. Rebar is separated from the concrete on the way to the facility. The rebar goes to scrap metal recycling and the concrete goes to the crusher. On washouts, normal rebar has no surcharge. Heavy rebar loads carry an $85 surcharge.
Can I put concrete in a regular dumpster?
Small amounts, yes. For a big load, ask for a dedicated concrete bin and tell us it is mostly concrete when you book. Concrete-heavy loads go straight to the crusher. Mixed loads work too, they just add a step.
What size dumpster do I need for a concrete tear-out?
Usually a 15 or 20 yard. Concrete is heavy, so the weight allowance runs out before the space does: 1 ton on the 15, 2 tons on the 20. Over that it is $49 a ton. Call and describe the slab, and we will size it with you.
What happens to the concrete in my washout pan?
It cures on site into solid chunks. Then we haul the pan and the cured concrete goes to the crushing facility. See washout pans and washout roll-offs.
Do you do residential concrete tear-outs?
We bring the dumpster for it. Driveway demos, patio rip-outs, sidewalks and retaining walls all work. The breaking and the loading is on you or your crew. We bring the container and haul it to the crusher.
Can I buy crushed concrete or road base?
Bubs delivers road base by the cubic yard, along with gravel, sand and other materials. See material deliveries.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the container and the job. Your quote is calculated for your exact address, travel included, so the number you get is the number you pay. Call or text 801-230-5045 for yours.
